Short Thoughts...
  • Decks—There have been a lot recently that have collapsed. Have you looked at yours recently? Is it bolted to the house? Were metal hangers used to support the joists? Does it sag?
  • Flooded Basements—Surface water from outside that floods in through windows or comes up through the floor is not covered. If you live near a stream or body of water and think you could get water inside your property, consider a Flood Policy. Also consider landscaping so water goes away from your home. Gutters and downspouts need to also lead away from foundations.
  • Ice Dams & Snow Accumulation—There were lots of problems last winter with ice accumulation and snow collapsing roofs. Buy a roof rake, consider changing the materials on the roof to metal. Make certain the attic space has proper ventilation to prevent ice dams.
  • Snow-covered vehicles—Remove all snow from the entire vehicle before driving off, not just the windows. You need to be able to see all around. Make certain that snow and ice can’t blow off your vehicle onto someone else’s, causing damage or an accident.
