| Company Cars, Frequently Borrowed Cars, Cars Available for your Regular Use. |
If you have access to a vehicle you do not own that is either furnished or available for your regular use, you do not have insurance coverage unless you have a Non-Owned Auto endorsement on your policy. Generally, courts have held that if the insured must ask permission and acquire the keys of the vehicle every time the vehicle is used, it is not furnished or available for regular use.
So...
- you have a company car
- your spouse uses your company car
- your parents are away and they leave you their car
- your child at college uses their roomate’s car...
Your own policy does not cover you in these situations. There is coverage from the vehicle you are using but... is it enough or the correct kind?
The Non-Owned Auto endorsement is a simple and inexpensive solution.
