Mandatory Car Insurance and Car Safety |
Mandatory Car Insurance
New Hampshire does not require you have insurance. Vermont does. So do the other New England states. If you or someone you know does not have insurance and you drive in another state that does, you are in violation of that states laws. Proof of insurance is also required, please make certain in each vehicle, that an insurance ID card is with your registration. If you have lost that ID card, call us, and we can get you a current one.
Smaller Cars and Safety
The higher cost of fuel is causing many individuals to look into smaller, more fuel efficient cars. But a questions is being asked, are they as safe as larger cars or SUVs? The cold hard facts are that statistically, smaller, lighter cars are generally less safe that larger ones.
These statistics though are reflective of the current types of vehicles in use today, many more SUV’s and Pickup trucks and the age and sex of the drivers using them and their accident patterns. Many more young males drive pickups and are involved in more accidents than seasoned drivers with families in minivans. However, the real key to the ability to survive a crash involves safety equipment, the vehicles' weight and its resistance to rolling over. Advances in safety equipment, air bags, side air bags, door guard beams, anti-lock brakes, interior design help contribute to improved safety in all vehicles. When looking into buying a smaller more economical vehicle, compare the safety ratings that are available. Two web sites that you can go to are, www.safecar.gov (federal government web site) and www.iihs.org (Insurance Institute of Highway Safety).
