“Saving Your Vision” At Work |
Help prevent vision problems while you are at work. It’s not surprising that one of the main causes of eye irritation at work is the computer. Here are some things you can do to help maintain your eye health: Eliminate the glare of your computer. Determine where your light source is hitting your computer and try to eliminate the direct hit.
- Sit between 14 and 16 inches away from the monitor.
- Position the monitor to be about 7-10 inches below your horizontal line of site.
- If you are working on the computer for many successive hours, take a mini-break every 60 minutes and look away from the screen.
- Blinking is a natural way of lubricating our eyes. Make a concentrated effort to increase the number of times you blink while working at your computer.
- If you wear contacts, talk to your eye doctor about using lubricating eye drops
- Most importantly, see an eye doctor on a regular basis.
Clearly, those with 20/20 vision are the lucky ones, but over 175 million people in America need some form of vision correction. For most, corrected vision is necessary for work, play and a person’s overall health. Having regular eye examinations and wearing corrective eyewear can greatly decrease the risk of more serious, long-term eye diseases – increasing productivity and your performance.
