| Tips for Teen Drivers |
We all get nervous for our teens when they get behind the wheel here are some pointers to try and keep them safe.
- Drive defensively. If you assume that other drivers are not as skilled and thoughtful as you are, you will instinctively become more careful and cautious when on the road.
- Encourage teens to drive slow. When you speed, you have less time to react, less time to make the right decision.
- Never drink and drive. Alcohol can seriously impair your decision-making skills and reaction time. Take the keys away from friends who have been drinking, let your children know it is OK to give friends rides home if they have been drinking.
- As parents we are the best example for our youth, while they are in the car be aware of your own driving habits, did you use your blinker when you should have? Practice safe driving as well so they will do the same.
- Pull over to change that CD or to answer that cell phone, most importantly Buckle up.
- Have your child complete a Driver’s Education course. Drivers that have completed this are considered a bit more aware and safer than teens that have never had the educational training.
