Lawn Mowers, Landscape Tractors & Riding Tractors
Do you own a lawn mower / tractor that you use to cut the grass, tow the dump
cart or plow snow in the winter time? Are you a nice neighbor and do your
neighbor’s lawn on occasion or plow their snow? If you do, when you take the “tractor” off your premises it has no insurance coverage at all. It’s only covered as
part of your homeowner’s policy for use on your property.
Do you own a larger tractor with a bucket or plow? When plowing your driveway
in the winter and you back out in the street to clear the end — you are not on your
premises. Therefore, if you hit something, you probably don’t have coverage.
You definitely don’t have coverage on a “tractor” when driving it down the road,
hauling it somewhere on a trailer or in the back of a pickup truck. And if you get
paid to use the “tractor” you are technically a business and your homeowner’s
policy almost certainly doesn’t cover anything that happens.
It’s not all bad news! There are two types of insurance that are available (similar
to car insurance) — Liability and Physical Damage. They can be bought separately
or together and will cover if the “tractor” leaves your yard. If getting paid to
use your tractor, a wide range of business coverage is available: call us for more
information and a quote.
