| Renters Insurance |
If you rent a home or apartment, your landlord’s insurance does not provide any coverage for your personal property. If the home burns to the ground, your property would be covered by Renter’s Insurance. A Renter’s Policy would also cover loss of use in the event of a fire, allowing you to pay for necessary hotel costs until another home was found. Finally, a Renter’s Policy provides personal liability coverage in case you were responsible for any injuries or property damage to another individual. Renter’s Insurance is quite affordable.
If college students rent off-campus housing not provided by the institution they attend, they may need a Renter’s Policy. While there may be some coverage afforded by their parents’ Homeowners Policy, expensive stereo equipment or personal computers may not be fully covered. Additionally, if their permanent address is their off-campus home, they are no longer considered a member of their parents’ household. Carefully read the lease to be certain that adequate personal liability coverage is also in place. A Renter’s Policy is the best overall way to cover a multitude of issues that may arise in this situation.
